This is a collaboration between my grandfather who was a photographer in Portugal, and myself.

When my mother was twelve years old, her life in Portugal came to a sudden end when her and her parents were deported to wartime Germany. Her loss of home and belongings and the misery that followed had a strong impact on her life and on mine.

I am working with the few surviving images that my grandfather took in their home in an attempt to create spaces where the present can interfere with the past, where the existance of absent people and absent environments can be brought into contact with the present.
